New name coming to Cochrane Crunch as NOJHL team transfers to Iroquois Falls

The owner and head coach of the Cochrane Crunch says approval from the NOJHL to move the team to Iroquois Falls is good and bittersweet at the same time.

The team name will change to something yet undetermined.

Tom Nickolau says some of the corporate support the team has had in Cochrane will move with it.

“I will have a few that will move with me and some of the locals I’ve not talked to yet,” he says. “But we will have to see.”

At the Iroquois Falls Sport and Trade Show this past weekend, the team sold 111 season passes.  Last year in Cochrane, it sold ten.

Nickolau says he can’t comment on this being the third try for a team at the Jus Jordan Arena… because he wasn’t there and doesn’t know what happened.

“Iroquois Falls have checked all the boxes. Everything is in place there. There’s the corporate support in place, billets in place, everything is in place. The staff’s in place. Everything is there.”

Nickolau confirms that the captain of one of those Iroquois Falls teams, Kevin Walker of Timmins, will join his coaching staff.

Our full interview is on our posted below.  In it, Nickolau discusses how he feels about leaving Cochrane.
