A volunteer recognition policy is closer to becoming a reality in Smooth Rock Falls. Town council has reviewed the new program that will honour volunteers for their commitment to the community.
Mayor Patrick Roberts says a committee will be set up to help in the selection process.
“And start it every January and get nominations from the community for different categories and we have 12 that we have kind of pint pointed right now recognition of awards that we could do.”
The categories range from youth to seniors and include beautification, sports and being neighbourly.
Roberts hopes that the new policy will help in two areas.
“We do have a lot of new residents here and hopefully this is going to get them coming out to help,” he said. “It’s their community now they live here. So it’s nice it’s not a big city and we don’t have a lot of volunteers but we do have enough here to keep it going but we need others too to step up.”
