Pirie fires back at Angus’s House of Commons comments about the Ring of Fire

Reckless disinformation is what Ontario Mines Minister George Pirie is calling statements made in Ottawa this week… by federal New Democratic MP Charlie Angus.  And he criticizes Angus for saying such things behind parliamentary privilege.

Pirie says his new bill at Queen’s Park does not remove the responsibility from mining companies to clean up, after they’ve mined out ore bodies in the Ring of Fire region.

“The financial liability that’s required to close a mine has not been changed, not one bit,” the minister says vehemently.

Pirie reminds Angus that the Ring of Fire is about mining critical minerals that will fuel electric cars, and create hundreds of jobs in their overlapping ridings.

He also takes aim at Angus criticizing the provision for sustainability, in plans to mine critical minerals in the Ring of Fire.

“The definition of sustainability is meeting the needs of today’s generation without compromising the next generation,” Pirie states. “And that’s exactly what we’re doing with this.”
