Final relocation decision on Cochrane Crunch move to Iroquois Falls up to NOJHL board

The commissioner of the Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League won’t predict the final outcome of the Cochrane Crunch application to move to Iroquois Falls.

Neither will Robert Mazzuca comment on the fact that this the previous two franchises at the Jus Jordan Arena didn’t work out.

“There’s been other applications to relocate that the board addressed several years ago,” he explains. “There was the same process in place and we’re going to follow the same process for this application to relocate as well.”

Among several requirements are a business plan and other documents filed with the league; then a 75% vote of support from the other eleven teams Mazzuca says the final decision will come from the league board.

“We’re not reinventing the wheel. It’s the same process that the previous owner applied to relocate to Iroquois Falls, I think it was in 2019-20.”

Current owner Tom Nickolau has declined an interview opportunity.  He and others will be at the Sports and Trade Show in Iroquois Falls this weekend selling season tickets.  That will gauge community reaction.
