Time to catch up on other vaccinations now that COVID-19 danger is eased

The Porcupine Health Unit is happy with the percentage of the people in its catchment area who have been immunized against COVID-19. At 83.4%, it’s on par with the rest of Ontario.

But PHU COVID response coordinator Tracy Bayley says it’s time, especially for our kids, to catch up on other vaccinations. The pandemic itself blocked the health unit from administering them in the traditional way – at school.

“We weren’t able to go into the schools and provide that opportunity for vaccines to the kids,” Bayley notes.

That was compounded by barriers to visiting your family doctor or nurse practitioner.

Bailey says it’s easy to find out which vaccinations your child needs.  Get their health card and go to the portal on the PHU website.

“You put in the health card number of your child and you can see which vaccines might be needed and at that point, you can reach out to your primary care giver or the Porcupine Health Unit.”

Bayley adds that extra clinics have been added to help get vaccinations back on track.
