Evacuation flights from Ft. Albany to Kapuskasing delayed due to weather

Weather conditions have caused delays in the evacuation of Ft. Albany’s most vulnerable residents due to spring flood concerns to Kapuskasing. Protective services general manager Pat Kennedy says the operation could be wrapped up as early as today with just four flights left to be completed.

He adds that a total of six flights touched down at the airport between Friday and Saturday, but bad weather cancelled activities on Sunday. The Ft. Albany residents were flown out in small groups to Kap, where they stayed for a day. A larger plane was used to take about 193 people to Pearson Airport and to the final destination of Mississauga.
