Kap Food Bank and warm belly soup kitchen both to benefit from smile cookie campaign

The Kapuskasing Food Bank and the Warm Belly Soup Kitchen will both benefit from the proceeds of the Tim Horton’s Smile Cookie Campaign that is set for May 1st to May 7th. Chairman of the food bank Rick Bartlett says the two organizations have set a lofty goal of selling 25 thousand smile cookies.

“And that represents $25,000 approximately in revenue that can go towards the soup kitchen and the food bank,” he said. “And you both know in the community how important the organizations have become. It’s growing as you can appreciate in the world – and our locality as well.”

Soup Kitchen coordinator Amanda Rickard says to help pre-launch the sale, two special contests will be held at the Indian Friendship Centre this month.

We have plans to have a cookie decorating contest, as well as a blind folded cookie decorating contest with some of the local agencies,” she said. “And we hope everyone has a chance to participate.”

The children’s cookie decorating contest will be held this Saturday, April 15th from 9 am to noon at the Indian Friendship Centre. Participants must pre-register according to age groups. Registration fee is $5 and only 25 will be allowed per category. Follow the Warm Belly Soup Kitchen on Facebook to find out registration information.

And the smile cookie fundraiser – get decorated as some well known people in the community will be decorated for 15 minutes. It takes place on Sunday, April 23 starting at 10 am at the Tim Horton’s in Kapuskasing. To nominate someone email: [email protected].
