It’s going to be permanent. Kapuskasing’s off-leash dog park is expected to get the official seal of approval from town council at the next meeting.
Councillor Guylaine Scherer says the town has had nothing but positive feedback from dog-owners, non-dog owners and people who live in area. Off-leash park spokesperson Tricia Papineau says she was thrilled with the news.
“We’ve worked really hard in the last year,” he said. “We have a really devoted committee, and also all of the members of the community are helping to pitch in to make this park a success. We have a very generous community. The park is partly the success of all of their help.”
Papineau says there is a long list of to-do items to make the park even better.
“So we do have plans to build a shelter, for when the weather is bad, build some areas in the park where the dogs can get some shading,” she said. “And we also want to fix the gates try to get something more accessible to everyone.”
Papineau says the park has even gotten support from out of town travelers who stop in on their way through town.
Recreation director Marc Clavelle says it’s been a great partnership with the committee and the town and looks forward to continue providing in-kind support.
