Residents and volunteers honour Food Bank chairman Rick Bartlett

The head of the Kapuskasing Food Bank was honoured on Friday night for his long time dedication of helping his community.  Rick Bartlett was thanked by a group of local residents and food bank volunteers at the Nordic Ski Club. Bartlett says he was humbled that they thought of him.

“I was speechless which was hard for me, because I like to talk,” he said. “I was overwhelmed by the warmth, the support, the generosity. It is unexpected. I do what I do because I love what I’m doing. For the community to say — Rick we appreciate what you are doing, it really really warmed my heart.”

Bartlett says the need for the food bank has grown from the first day he took it over seven years ago. He adds that a group of volunteers make a huge difference so they are available at any moment to make a difference.

He says what amazes him the most about his work is the generosity.

“This community just gives so so much, not only corporately but individually,” he said. “It consistently blows my mind when people show up at the door with things, money or food that I didn’t expect. This is a very warm, caring community and I’m very proud to be part of it.”
