Town of Kap crews put in long hours to tackle big storm from weekend

If you think the winter storm from the past weekend was similar to the one we had at Christmas, you’re not far off. In fact each storm dropped approximately 33 cm of snow in Kapuskasing. Public Works general manager Eric Cote says however that’s where the similarity ends, and this storm was much different.

“Ah this was a different storm and it was a lot more labour intensive,” he said. “It looked like it came down faster and it was heavier at times. I mean, it took a lot of hours to get through this storm and we are still working at it today.”

Cote says he’s unsure what size of financial hit there will be on the snow removal budget.

“I suspect it’s a fair size hit to our snow removal budget meaning I have somewhere about 300 man hours of overtime just on this one storm,” he said. “What the crews managed to do in the amount of time they had to do it was very impressive.”
