Kapuskasing Flyers heading to GNML year end in Sault Ste. Marie

The Kapuskasing Flyers are off to Sault Ste. Marie tomorrow for the Great North U18 Hockey League’s year end tournament. This is the second straight year the league has adopted a tournament style format. It was held in Kapuskasing last year. Flyers Head Coach Darren Potvin says the excitement level is through the roof.

“We’ve been building up for this tournament all season long and we’ve tried to tell our players that everything that we’ve done to date has been a learning curve, leading us into this fantastic event,” he said.

The eight teams are divided into two pools based on the standings during the regular season. The Flyers face New Liskeard and the Sudbury U16 Capitals on Thursday, followed by the North Bay U18 Trappers on Friday.

“It’s one of those things where you stick to the game plan, and you are ready to go and you start on time, things will end up in a positive manner for your team,” he said. “We’re satisfied with the teams we’re playing and the way we are playing heading into it. The biggest challenge for us is not taking any opponent lightly, taking every team like it could be your last game.”

The semi-finals are Saturday and the championship game is Sunday afternoon.
