Economic Development Manager says Kap Welcome Centre should be kept

The energy and economic development general manager for Kapuskasing says the Welcome Centre is the first point of contact for visitors and doesn’t believe it should be sold as a cost cutting measure. Paul Nadeau says the centre offers a number of services including the Ron Morel Memorial Museum.

“We do have the Kap Shop, we have our charging stations for electric vehicles,” he said. “We have a dumping station for RVs. So there are plenty of amenities here at the Welcome Centre for people to take advantage of.”

The Town took over the former train station in 2004.

Nadeau says visitors come by and ask for directions or to find out about local businesses.

During a recent meeting, town councillors suggested that several buildings should be studied for their value and perhaps sold as a way to save money.
