Jonathan Cheechoo inducted into Indigenous athletic hall of fame

Former Kapuskasing Flyers and National Hockey League forward Jonathan Cheechoo has been induced into the North American Indigenous Athletic Hall of Fame.

Cheechoo, who hails from Moose Factory, spent one season with the Flyers in the Great North Midget Hockey League. He was selected 29th overall by the San Jose Sharks in the 1998 NHL Draft.

Cheechoo won the Maurice Richard trophy during the 2005-2006 season for scoring 56 goals in a season for the Sharks.

Cheechoo now teaches hockey camps in Moose Factory and speaks to indigenous youth. The Indigenous Athletic Hall of Fame is virtual and here is the link.
