Smooth Rock Falls museum adds exhibit of JP Parise

The Smooth Rock Falls Museum has a very special display remembering the hockey career of hometown hero Jean Paul Parise. Volunteer Curator Sheila Jacques says the display features a video of one of the 1972 Summit Series games, pictures, skates and his Team Canada jersey.

“He had given the sweater to a local guy – his name was Rejean Lamothe when they had that big event at the sign over by the bridge in Smooth Rock,” she said. “His wife decided to donate the sweater to the Smooth Rock Falls Museum.”

Parise played for Team Canada against the former Soviet Union during the famous series. He also had a long NHL career with several teams including Minnesota North Stars and New York Islanders.

The Museum is located at the former Trinity United Church on 4th avenue.

She invites everyone to come out in the afternoon to check it out.

“I’m over there most afternoons from 1:30 to 3:30 in the winter,” she said. “If anyone wants to make an appointment, I’m willing. My number is 705-338-2939. If I’m not busy I will go over anytime.”
