Town of Kap expected to have all three electric car charging stations running next month

Mid-march is the earliest date before Kapuskasing’s electric car charging stations will be officially open.  Two of the three posts located at the Welcome Centre are currently offline and the other is charging at just over half power.

General Manager of energy and economic development Paul Nadeau says that power module problems have been persistent since August, and technicians thought the issue was fixed in December.

“We received two of the power modules,” he said. “Technicians came out and started installation on one of the units and noticed that the two rear modules were defective. So they ended up ordering another two modules. They brought one of the stations online in mid-January.”

Nadeau says the town will send out information to various websites and Apps once the stations are online.

“In February we got about seven connections that are like independent connections from people coming in to charge their vehicles,” he said. “So there is some interest and demand for it. Unfortunately, we haven’t been able to make a public announcement saying that these stations are available to the general public.”

The charging stations were originally built in July of last year.
