Young francophone musicians going to Timmins for a festival

The musical talents of students from eleven francophone high schools across Ontario will be on stage this weekend at Ecole Catholique Secondaire Thériault in Timmins.

“It’s called ‘Festival Quand Ca Nous Chante,’” says Thériault activities coordinator Valerie Vachon. She adds that it’s a showcase for the students to express themselves as young Franco-Ontarians.

“The Friday all day it’s going to be presentations from each school that are coming from all over Ontario. They’ll have a 20-minute slot to be presenting on stage their performance.”

Following that, they’ll get critiques from professionals Céleste Lévis and Stef Paquette, who will stage a performance with the Timmins Symphony Orchestra that night. It’s open to the public. Tickets are $20.00 at the door.

Vachon stresses that the weekend allows students to express themselves in their culture… and in a professional type of environment.

“So for us it is very important because we’re living (in the North) and they don’t have many experiences to do like that.”

Cité des Jeunes and Ecole Secondaire de Hearst are among the schools taking part.
