The mayor of Smooth Rock Falls says upcoming improvements will make the town buildings and facilities more accessible to people with mobility issues. Patrick Roberts says there are a number of projects planned in the coming year that include changes to the council chambers.
“Going to the council chambers from the back, we have a brand-new ramp going in with automatic doors and stuff like that,” he said. “And accessible washrooms up there so people can come. You want everyone to come, that can come.”
Roberts says people can either walk up or drive their scooters up the ramp and right into the chambers.
He adds that changes are coming to the swimming pool.
“New lockers and washrooms and outdoor showers,” he said. “They’ll all be accessible as well. And our community centre now, washrooms will be accessible now. They’ll be done this year as well.”
Roberts says it’s important that all residents have proper access to services, municipal buildings and facilities.
