Bougouin says he will continue fighting for northern highways no matter what

With Queen’s Park set to resume on Tuesday following the family holiday weekend, the member for Mushkegowuk-James Bay says he’ll continue fighting for Northern Highways. Guy Bourgouin says the province’s decision to reduce the time when Highways 11 and 17 are cleaned after a storm was only done after being pushed by the NDP.

“We’ve seen during Christmas a three day closure. How do you explain that?” he said. “You know millions of dollars that, we’re losing as a province and as a country. We’re asking for 8 hours we’re not second class citizens.”

Bourgouin’s private members bill calling for safer highways was voted down at the legislature. He adds accidents are still happening and people are not making their medical appointments in Timmins.

“Imagine if Highway 11 and 17 the conditions that they are in – think about 655, think about 144, the conditions they are in?” he said. “So we deserve better and I am going to continue fighting for that.”
