Town of Hearst rolling out small list of projects planned for the year

Construction could be completed this summer on improvements to the Stephane Lecours Swimming Pool in Hearst. It’s one of the few infrastructure projects for the town in the coming year. Chief Administrative Officer Eric Picard says there’s also renovations to the town shop.

“We also have 1.7 million dollars going towards water and wastewater projects,” he said. “We’re looking at a small expansion of our public work garage although that we just started working on it.”

Picard says one road construction projects had been changed from its original plan of a two year completion date to just one.

“It helped to reduce the cost at least for this project,” he said. “That means Villeneuve Construction that had the contract doesn’t have to come back a second year and do it all. We are repaying the second half of it this year. But no we don’t have any projects for the roads this summer.”

Last week, Hearst Town Council approved a 2.75 percent municipal tax increase.
