Former Timmins MPP Gilles Bisson is emphatic: ‘I am not running again!’

What do you do when, after 32 years as an MPP, you’re forced into retirement by your first electoral defeat?

In the case of New Democrat Gilles Bisson — who was unseated in the Timmins riding last June — you work with the Carpenters Union, to get First Nations members and women into construction trades for projects right across Ontario. And you stay active in the party.

“I’ve been working with the riding association, making sure that we can bring this riding back into the NDP in the next election,” Bisson reports. “So we’re doing those things that are important to make that happen.”

There’s an emphatic answer to the obvious question of whether he’ll run in 2026.

“I am done! I am not running again!”

“I am so thankful for the 32 years that I got the support here and people were wonderful and they’re still wonderful today,” he comments, “but it’ll be passed on to somebody else and I’m sure we will do well under the leadership of my leader Marit Stiles.  I think we’ll do very well.”

The next Ontario election is set for Thursday, June 4th, 2026.
