Even though Patrick Roberts was sworn in as Mayor of Smooth Rock Falls earlier this week, he still considers himself Mayor-Elect.
In last month’s municipal election, Roberts beat incumbent Sue Perras by just four votes. After a recount last Wednesday, the two were tied and under provincial legislation names were put into a hat and Roberts name was drawn first.
There is currently a 15 day waiting period to allow for judicial recount applications. If none is requested then on the next day, the clerk can declare Roberts officially as mayor.
