Renovations underway for improvements at Royal Canadian Legion in Kap

Renovations are underway at the Royal Canadian Legion in Kapuskasing . Workers have built new accessible washrooms and now waiting on the chair lift that will help Legion members easily use both levels of the facility. chair lift committee chairperson Debbie Morin says the end is nearly in sight to a project that began two years ago.

“We’ve been selling 50-50 tickets, having different draws, having different fundraiser events that went on at the Legion,” she said. “We managed to fundraise quite a bit. We also got an accessibility grant from the government. We are still a little shy of our money because of the cost of supplies going up.”

Morin says Legion members can’t wait for the work to be done.

“They want to get to the different levels easier and the nice thing about it is people will not have to wait for somebody to help them to get in and out,” she said. “They can do it themselves.”

It’s hopeful the renovations will be completed in time for Remembrance Day.
