Bruce Newton hopes to continue work that council started from the past term

One of the three incumbents vying to return to Kapuskasing Town Council this October is looking forward to continuing the work that has been started from the past term. Bruce Newton says the group got a lot accomplished in the last four years despite the challenges faced with the pandemic, including the construction of highway 11.

“West side of town is just about done with the shoulders, and now looking forward to completing another section of road over by Service Master,” he said. “The ditching is just about complete, we’re also involving sidewalks so people can walk right up to Walmart.”

Newton says being on council continues a path of volunteerism.

“Volunteered since about ’92, almost right out of high school and I wanted to give back more to the community,” he said. “I’m always trying to help more and more and the next stage was to give involved in the town, help out with the town and make it a better place to live.”

The Kapuskasing native is one of 11 candidates running for town council in the October 24 election.
