Gylaine Scherer ready to seek second term on Kap town council

The only female on Kapuskasing Town Council is going to run again for a second term. Guylaine Scherer says she enjoyed her first term and encourages other people including women that are interested in pursuing municipal politics to give it a try.

“Being a woman, yes is a different point of view, but it’s really easy with the team that we had over the last four years,” she said. “I never felt like I was the only woman around the table. I just felt I was one resident within a group of residents who wanted to make a difference.”

Scherer, says she’s ready to move forward thanks to some positive comments from the community.

“The first mandate as a councillor was a little be chaotic with the pandemic,” she said. “So I think I still have things I want to input in my community. I want to contribute.”

Scherer says a highlight for her from the first term was helping to plan for the town’s 100th anniversary. She adds the whole event gave her a new outlook of what teamwork is all about.

Scherer joins Bruce Newton and Ken Munnoch as those councillors that will seek another term.  Mayor Dave Plourde has also indicated that he would like to be back.

The deadline to file paperwork is Friday at 2 pm.
