OPP looking for more than a few good men and women to become constables

Northerners are the target of OPP information and recruiting sessions in Kapuskasing on the 21st of this month, and in Cochrane on the 22nd.

They’re in two parts: a display for anyone to find out what the provincial police do,  followed by an information session for anyone who might want to apply to become a constable.

Senior recruiter Sergeant Vincent Hick says police work in this region takes into account the different lifestyle and environment from other parts of Ontario.

“In the south, there’s motorcycle patrol, no snowmobiles,” he illustrates. “But then go up north, there’s no motorcycles, but snowmobiles and ATVs, so it’s to really show what police work is in that area.”

Hick adds that the OPP is hiring in unprecedented numbers.

“Due to attrition and the growth of our organization, we are looking to hire between four- and five-hundred new constables every year. There’s never been a better time to apply for the OPP.
