Students participate in Pride Walk in Kapuskasing

English and French public elementary and high school students in Kapuskasing took to the streets this morning for what’s believed to be the town’s first Pride Walk. Students walked from the Education Centre to the Circle holdings signs and flags in support of the month. Diamond Jubilee Public School Principal Chad Dagenais says to hold an event like this in town is very special.

“We’re walking down the downtown core, we’ve had some honks and we’ve had some waves and being well received,” he said. “Just another wave from the mayor driving by which is great. So it’s a great part of our community to be included.”

Dagenais says it was great to see the students out supporting others.

“They’re definitely enjoying the chance to get out of class for one but for many of our students to identify in the LGBTQ community,” he said. “That’s an opportunity for them to be themselves, express themselves and to be included.”
