It’s going to cost you more to take a cab in Kapuskasing. Town Council approved several increases including the base rate by $1.55 from $4.70 to $6:25. Each additional tenth of a kilometre is going to cost you 10 cents. Mayor Dave Plourde says with gas prices and insurance costs going up, it is definitely not easy.
“They experience exactly the pain that we are feeling, probably to a larger tune really,” he said. “It is something that was needed to support the business, and to continue offering taxi service in our community, it was a necessity.”
It’s the first time since 2010 that the taxi fares are going up. Officials from Five Star taxi say that a recently concluded survey suggested that the rates in Kapuskasing are significantly lower than other communities in the region.
