Mushkegowuk-James Bay MPP says he and many MPPs owe a lot to Gilles Bisson

When Queen’s Park begins a new sessions this fall, there will be a noticeable absence in the legislature. Timmins MPP Gilles Bisson who spent the past 32 years as an MPP was defeated by former Mayor George Pirie for the Timmins riding in last Thursday’s provincial election. Mushkegowuk James Bay MPP Guy Bourgouin, who is returning for his second term, says he owes a lot to Bisson.

“Not only for me but he has mentored many many politicians,” he said. “I know Gilles, he is going to take it hard, but he has given a lot of time and he should be proud of what he has accomplished.”

Bourgouin called Bisson a special person.

“I don’t know of a politician as dedicated or as hard of a worker as Gilles Bisson,” he said. “You know he just went through a heart attack, and he went through a campaign so that speaks to the man himself.”
