Voters in the Mushkegowuk James Bay riding re-elected New Democrat incumbent Guy Bourgouin for a second term in the Provincial Election last night. With 100 per cent of the polls reported, Bourgouin out-distanced Conservative candidate Eric Cote by 824 votes. Bourgouin says he’s happy to be heading back to Queen’s Park and calls it a privilege to serve the people of the riding.
“And we should never take that for granted,” he said. “I just want to say that the people that didn’t vote for me, I will work extra hard because I am the MPP for all the riding, not just for the people that voted for me. I intend to work even harder.”
Bourgouin says he was disappointed with the low voter turnout of just below 39 per cent.
“We have to look inward to say, how do we improve,” he said. “And now it’s going to be to reach out to the stakeholders, build up these networks so we can represent them, and work with the government to better serve the people of Mushkegowuk James Bay.”
Liberal Candidate Matt Pronovost finished a distant third, followed by Mike Buckley of the New Blue Party, Catherine Jones of the Green Party and Fauzia Sadiq of the Confederation of Regions Party.
