GreenFirst Kapuskasing Mill gets $400,000 from NOHFC

GreenFirst Forest Products mill in Kapuskasing is getting $400,000 from the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund.

Northern Development Mines and Forestry Minister Greg Rickford was in the model town and toured the mill along with municipal officials prior to the funding announcement.

Forty five full time jobs will be created at the mill as the money will be used to get the number four paper machine up and running. Green First chairman Paul Rivett says the modernization of the machine is coming along well.

“We’re pushing hard. A lot of the pieces have been out retooled and ready to go. The only limitation is that we don’t have enough people so please come.”

Rivett encourages those who might be interested in a career at the mill to apply for open positions.

The machine will make specialty recyclable paper like sandwich wrappers that is becoming more and more of a demand especially with the elimination of plastic bags.

He adds there are three other paper machines that will need some work but could be put online should the demand for the paper product increase even farther.
