Centre de Loisirs to hold second Winterfest next month

An outdoor winter festival is coming to Kapuskasing next month. The 2nd annual Winterfest takes place at the Centre de Loisirs from March 18th to March 20th. Director Denik Dorval says the festival is both virtual and in-person for everyone to enjoy.

“To organize the event was quite complicated, but now we are just happy that its going to be in a hybrid form,” he said. “It’s going to be in-person shows with outside activities and all offered free online. Everybody all the residents in Kapuskasing can have access to the festivities.”

He adds that a $40,000 grant from the Ministry of Francophone Affairs will help offer a unique twist.

“Really for this grant what’s great about that is we want to have a bilingual event so everyone in Kap can participate,” he said. “That’s why Mitch Jean is going to be an Anglophone show with Francophone headliners so we can bring the community together to celebrate the Winterfest.”

Dorval says he will be announcing what family outdoor activities the event will have in the coming weeks so he encourages everyone to stay tuned to social media.

There is a full line-up of music including Mitch Jean of Cochrane and Kapuskasing’s own North Country Brotherhood. Centre de Loisirs members can get their tickets first until February 21st and then tickets go on sale for everyone else. Here is the link to the website.
