Sisters in Spirit Walk set for Kapuskasing on Monday

A Sisters in Spirt walk to honour murdered or missing indigenous women takes place in Kapuskasing on Monday morning. Walk committee member Donna-Lise Lamothe (La-MOTT) says the event begins at 10 from the Comfort Inn and concludes at 50 Golf Street.

“There will be a fire, drumming and some snacks,” she said. “There will be tobacco and medicines that you can offer to the fire with your prayers and thoughts about missing and murdered indigenous girls and women and maybe some people in your lives.”

Lamothe says several agencies and organization partner on the walk every year that attracts about 50 people.

Lamothe adds there’s one part of the walk that makes it special.

“We are going to hang some red dresses also along the highway to acknowledge these women who are missing and murdered,” she said.  “The dresses will be hung on Sunday and we will take them down on Tuesday.”
