There’s more than geography in a decision to move ahead into COVID-19 recovery

The James and Hudson Bay coasts – where COVID-19 is running rampant – are not about to be segregated from the rest of Porcupine Health Unit territory.

Medical officer of health Dr. Lianne Catton says even though numbers are improving in the rest of the region, it’s only been a few days for that.  She notes that during the third wave, there have been times when it looked like we were turning the corner, only for record-high increases in new cases a week or two later.

“So we really need to see a more sustained pattern, a trend that is really solid, before we make any potential consideration moving forward,” says Catton.

“So I am quite hopeful that we will continue to see some sustained improvements and be able to move forward. Exactly what that looks like, we’ll have to see. There’s so many factors at play.”

Catton calls the region “complex and vast”.
