Settlement Services helping new Canadians feel welcome in our region

A new organization hopes to help new Canadians make the transition to life in our region. Northeastern Settlement Services Agent Melanie Breton says it offers programs for not only newcomers to the region, but employers needing help filling jobs for those who are ready to work.

“As some of our business owners have started to recruit the workforce out of the region, one of our roles will be to provide resources to business owners in order to facilitate the integration process,” she said.

Breton says there are a number of programs offered to newcomers to get them settled.

“Personalized needs assessment, information towards the various services of organizations within our region and how to obtain them,” she said. “Orientation towards the community, offer multicultural activities and provide awareness to our employers.”

A photo contest is underway until the end of August to help create more awareness about the organization. You could win a prize for showing how you are making newcomers feel welcome. Details on the contest are on the Settlement Services Facebook page and website.
