The Kapuskasing Horticultural Society and the Centre De Sante have teamed up for a unique kids in the garden program. Society president Anne Jamieson says 50 container gardening kits are available at the Centre de Sante that include the container, soil and seeds. There are also videos available to help the children and families.
“Some of the videos include how to plant your seeds for each of those, and how to plant tomatoes and cucumbers,” she said. “How to water because it’s very important when you are planting in containers that your plants get enough water. And there is a little bit on fertilizer.”
The videos are posted on the Facebook pages of the Horticultural Society and Centre De Sante.
Jamieson says there are number of vegetable seeds for the kids and families to choose from.
“Carrots, there are peas, both the seeds and edible pods ones,” she said. “There are yellow and green beans. There’s lettuce and kale, and radishes. So the children get the opportunity to choose what they like to grow, probably what they like to eat.”
