Design of new welcome sign for Model Town approved

A new welcome sign is one step closer to becoming reality for Kapuskasing.

Town council approved the design for the new entrance sign during last night’s meeting. Town Administrator Guylain Baril says there is no timeline to when it will be built, either by the end of this year or in 2022. He adds there was more of a concern of having the right sign that will last 30-40 years instead of putting a rush to getting it constructed.

The new welcome sign is a grey and black brick structure. The words welcome are written in English, French and Cree, and the name Kapuskasing is lit up so motorists can see it driving on Government Road. The bear sign will be taken down near the former Chamber of Commerce offices once new one is built.
