The Mayor of Kapuskasing says a move by the Federal Government to make its economic development organization for Northern Ontario a standalone body is great news. Dave Plourde says it’s a sign that the Feds are listening.
“I think that is something that northern mayors have been lobbying for quite some time to have FEDNOR be a standalone,” he said. “At least provide a substantial amount of money that would stay in Northern Ontario. We see the needs and how the monies are going to good use.”
In the recent 2021 budget, the feds announced a budget commitment that would make FEDNOR its own entity and help in northern economic development. La Fromagerie in Kapuskasing and Lecours Motor Sales in Hearst are among businesses that have benefited from FEDNOR support.
