Ice making to start next week at Sports Palace

After a clogged pipe problem forced a delay, it appears that ice making will begin early next week at the Sports Palace in Kapuskasing. Recreation Director Marc Clavelle says one final check of the system was carried out this week prior to hitting the go button and freezing the floor. He adds that there will be lots of changes the way people use the facility this fall including the number of people allowed at once.

“Right now the capacity is 50 spectators, parents whatever you want to call them not counting the participants on the ice,” he said. “So we are very limited to the numbers that can be in here.”

Clavelle says at the beginning you won’t be allowed to change into the gear at the arena.

“Athletes participants whatever you want to call them will have to change at home and only be able to put their skates on or helmet or the figure skaters just their skates.,” he said. “We will be using the floor on the southside and not change rooms at this time.”
