Clean up weeks like those happening in Kapuskasing offer more than just to spruce up your yards and neighbourhoods. In fact, Mayor Dave Plourde says one of the major benefits is helping municipalities like ours with their landfill sites.
“You know everything that we do whether it’s recycling which this is a form of recycling in a way or even encourage people to take stuff to the compost site will add life to our landfill and that’s what we are trying to do,” he said.
He added that in the long run it will save municipalities millions and millions of dollars in having to expand or find new landfill sites.
Plourde reminded everyone that this is the week to have your stuff left at curbside and what isn’t picked over will be collected by town crews during the regular garbage collection.
“What’s important to understand that if you do have a fridge or something large in nature to call public works ahead of time to ensure they are aware of it and can go by ahead of time of pick it up rather than complicate things on collection day.”
