Pop-up theatre wants to come to town

A pop-up drive-in theatre is making the rounds of Northeastern Ontario this summer… and the young Sudbury entrepreneur who co-owns the 40-foot inflatable screen hopes to bring it to Kapuskasing.

Ben MacKenzie’s looking for a parking lot that will hold up to 300 cars.

He says how often he comes depends on the reception the first time.

“What we’re doing in other northern communities such as North Bay and Manitoulin Island is we’re doing one weekend – Friday night double feature, one at 9:00, one at 11:00,” he explains. “From there, we’re looking at either coming back every two weeks or doing just every three weeks, we’ll do a show.”

Tickets are sold online, for a touchless experience – part of what MacKenzie says is complying with COVID-19 protocol.

MacKenzie is a 22-year-old Laurentian University student, taking business administration, specializing in entrepreneurship.
