COVID-19 has thrown some challenges the way of the Alzheimer Society’s Timmins-Porcupine district branch.
Executive director Tracy Koskamp-Bergeron says program and service delivery to its Alzheimer’s clients and their families is now completely non-contact, done by phone and Zoom. She remarks that it is and isn’t a setback.
“Some people don’t respond well to doing phone visits and don’t have the computer capabilities or internet or skill to be able to do an online visit. In that aspect, it’s difficult,” she outlines. “Out catchment area foes from Hearst to New Liskeard. I have staff that have quite a lot of travel in order to meet people face to face. So while it has limited us to being able to do that, it actually has also opened up a little bit of time for some extra calls.”
Donations have also decreased during the pandemic. The Alzheimer Society relies to a large extent on donations to pay for its services.
