Canada Post explains delivery delays among record levels of online shopping

You’re likely laughing in exasperation as you wait for your long overdue online shopping parcel to be delivered by Canada Post.

Spokesperson Jon Hamilton says it’s dealing with unprecedented complications, starting with its 21 processing facilities not being designed for workers to maintain physical distancing.

“Whether you’re living in Northeastern Ontario or Newfoundland or Vancouver,” he notes, “people are at home and they’re shopping more online.  So we’re seeing record volumes come into our facilities.  We’re delivering as quickly as possible.”

Hamilton says among other complications are reductions to regional transportation means like bus, train and airplane.

“All–out efforts are out to deliver.  We’ve been delivering across Northeastern Ontario on weekends for the last eleven weeks and normally, we would be doing that during Christmas.”

Hamilton urges patience, saying your parcel will get to you as quickly as possible.
