Any time now is a good time to haul in your fishing hut off the ice

Ice fishers should be okay for March Break. However, a staff-sergeant with MNRF conservation officers is advising you not to leave your huts out on the ice beyond that.

Bill McCord says the warmer temperatures and rain we’ve had through the winter leads him to anticipate a fast, early thaw.

“Even though the majority of the region doesn’t have the mandatory ice hut removal date,” he points out, “I’m saying it’s imperative for ice hut owners to be proactive and remove their huts before the conditions deter quickly…  So it’s time to start picking up those huts and moving them to shoreline before April, before they really get into a bind.”
