Strike at English Catholic students set for Tuesday

While English public and French Catholic students get Wednesday off because of labour action by their teachers, English Catholic students right across Ontario get their day off next Tuesday.

Northeastern Catholic District Board director Tricia Weltz confirms that’s because of a one-day strike by the Ontario English Catholic Teachers Association.

“All of our elementary and secondary schools will be closed to students on January 21st.  OECTA represents all of our teachers, both elementary and secondary,” she explains.

An unexpected day off sends parents scrambling to find babysitting for their kids.

“We have given our families notice explaining that our schools will be closed next Tuesday,” says Weltz, “and we are hoping that this advance notice will provide them with enough time to make alternate arrangements for their children.”
