One of the unique free activities is set to start next week. The 1635 Royal Canadian Army Cadets start their new training on Tuesday at 6 pm in the basement of the Kapuskasing Civic Center. It’s free and open for ages 12 years and up. Captain Mike Oliver says Army Cadets teach a lot to young people.
“It gives them a chance to learn leadership skills, have an interest in the Canadian Forces, should they wish to go on to a career in that area,” Oliver said. “We assist community organizations with support of cadets at their events.”
For new cadets wishing to join, they must bring a copy of their birth certificate and health card. In Hearst the Army Cadets will meet at Notre Dame Catholic School beginning next Thursday, Sept. 12. Oliver says they are always looking for parents and adults who are wishing to volunteer their time and teach the cadets.
