Bikers’ getting ready once again to lend that gracious, helping hand

For a fifth straight year you can help your fellow community members in need.

Kapuskasing will celebrate a fifth straight Biker’s Helping Hand Fundraiser event in mid-June as organizer Sylvie Dalton says they are once again supporting five further residents in need of financial assistance for medical bills.

Dalton says as always they pick their recipients based off nominations that they receive from the local area, and this year has been no different.

However, she says one change will be the structure of their day-long event.

“We just decided to re-structure and bring in something different and something that has never been done as far as we know. Hoping to bring in some different people, a different kind of crowd, to show Kap that whether you ride a bike or not it doesn’t matter its an event for everyone.”

Fellow organizer Lina Fortier says the more people who come out to support the event the more they can give back.

“All the money is donated to people in need, so the more money we have the more people that come the more we can give back to the recipients of Kapuskasing and area, so far we have given over $80,000 and we are hoping to bring that amount up again.”

Fortier says they have no official goal for this year, but they are aiming to improve upon the past few years if possible.

Dalton also wants to notify the area that on the day of the event Brunelle Road North will have detours as traffic will be re-directed for the sake of the Strongman and Strongwoman competitions going on during the afternoon.

The event takes place Saturday, June 15th beginning with a parade before the competitions outside the Sports Palace Arena to be followed by music at the Kapuskasing Curling Club later in the evening.
