Further Kashechewan evacuees expected to arrive Wednesday

Further evacuees are headed to Kapuskasing.

Another group of Kashechewan evacuees will be flying into town on Wednesday says General Manager of Protective Services Pat Kennedy.

This is due to a full-scale emergency being called for the Kashechewan First Nation.

Kennedy says currently the town is housing 514 evacuees, but he does not know exactly how many more will be making their way in this week.

He has also mentioned that any high school students will begin classes locally as of tomorrow, while elementary school students will have to wait a little while longer, however they have been given homework packages for the time being.

Kennedy has also mentioned that further ice on the Albany River is expected to breakup this weekend, with that in mind, residents from Fort Albany First Nation could be also making their way into town due to evacuation.
