KDHS Part Of Youth Welding Partnership

A local Kapuskasing high school is helping out the welding industry.

Kapuskasing and District High School has begun the first partnership of its kind in the northeast, offering students the chance to become certified welders out of high school.

The partnership between the Moose Cree First Nation and the Kapuskasing school has been created to address a shortage of certified welders within the northeast region.

The school plans to have students who are enrolled in welding classes pass all welding tests by the time they graduate and complete high school. Through this, students are able to be employed after graduation.

KDHS plans to certify students by the end of Grade 12, authorizing them to weld on structures, steel, stairs, handrails and more.

The program works in partnership with several local businesses that are helping to provide equipment and training for the students.
