Canadians looking to apply for a passport online are being tricked into a pricey sharing of information.
According to Algoma-Manitoulin-Kapuskasing MP Carol Hughes, fake government websites are tricking Canadians.
Hughes points to a website called Passport Online, who asks Canadians looking for a passport to give them personal and financial information.
She says people need to be more aware, but they also need to take action against fraud.
Hughes says a study would go a long way to providing answers on how to correct the problem.
She says the problem is concerning, considering personal details and financial information can lead to identity theft.
