30 residents from the Fort Albany First Nation are being evacuated into Kapuskasing this afternoon following a state of emergency declaration this morning.
The town of Kapuskasing alerted Moose News around 11:00am that the First Nation community of Fort Albany has declared a state of emergency following a critical infrastructure failure that has affected at least six homes.
Fire Chief and General Manager of Protective Services Pat Kennedy says the Fort Albany residents will be accommodated and housed in Kapuskasing at local motels while the infrastructure is being assessed and then repaired.
Kennedy says the town will be distributing meals and emergency supplies from the Civic Centre Auditorium.
There is no expectancy at this time to how long the accommodations will be needed.
